Message from the University Librarian

The Library Professional Cadetship program in 2013 supports the University of Melbourne Library's Vision to 2015.

Here at The University of Melbourne Library, our intention is to recruit two undergraduates with a relevant discipline qualification. In 2013 we are targeting recent undergraduates with degrees relevant to the Law, Biosciences, Music, Visual and Performing Arts disciplines. However applicants with degrees in other disciplines may also be considered.

Our aim is to place successful cadets primarily in the library branch that corresponds with their discipline. They will participate in service delivery and academic liaison support whilst they undertake a librarianship qualification. In addition, cadets develop breadth of experience through placements and roations into other library areas, project work and working in different teams.

The information and academic landscape within which university libraries exist continues to evolve rapidly, shaped by key forces such as increased emphasis upon support to researchers and online service development. University libraries are challenged to respond to changes and opportunities, capitalise upon and wherever possible pre-empt and lead them.

Our ultimate goal is create library services that are convenient and efficient for  our students and academic staff, enhance university teaching and learning programs and enable research and scholarship, in both traditional and 'e' forms.

As a leading Australian academic library we are also committed to developing the library profession in Australia. This program will contribute to the development of tomorrow's vibrant and skilled academic librarians.

The University of Melbourne Library offers potential applicants an opportunity to be part of a dynamic world class organisation which provides its staff with benefits and support at every stage of their life and career.

Best regards,
