Use of Electronic Resources

The University of Melbourne Library provides electronic resources that are governed by licence agreements restricting use to current authorised University staff and students. Some resources also allow access to walk-in users. Use of these electronic resource and University computer facilities are also subject to the Provision and Acceptable Use of IT Policy.

Individual users are responsible for ensuring that they use these electronic resources only as permitted under the terms and conditions of the licence agreements.  More detailed information about the terms and conditions for individual databases and electronic resources is available via Discovery and the Catalogue.

The use of electronic resources for teaching purposes must comply with the licensed terms and conditions of use of the individual electronic resource.  You may not be able to download material to make it available via the LMS or print out material to include in course packs or as class handouts.

Users must not systematically download, distribute or retain substantial portions of any database or electronic resources. ‘Systematic’ or ‘excessive’ downloading is defined as, but not limited to,  a deliberate attempt to copy or distribute a whole or significant part of an electronic resource using agents or robots, or any manual means. This may result in the loss of access for the entire University of Melbourne community.  Generally users are permitted to download a “reasonable portion” as outlined in the terms and conditions for the individual database or resource.
