Giving to the University Library

The Library is the intellectual heart of the University of Melbourne. It plays a central role in enabling groundbreaking research, inspiring great minds and revealing the legacy of the world’s knowledge to our communities.

With the support of our alumni, Friends and community partners we are able to meet the Library’s current priorities, which include digitising and conserving our unique collections and the construction of state-of-the-art facilities to support the Melbourne Model and the changing needs of our students and researchers.

Support for the Library enriches the entirety of the University community and leaves a lasting legacy for the scholars of tomorrow.

Make a gift to make a difference

There are many ways to support the Library and our collections.

Supporting a specific collection

The depth and variety of our collections have made the University Library one of the most significant cultural custodians in the city of Melbourne. We seek support to strengthen our collections including our rare books and special collections including Prints, the Grainger Museum and University Archives through a program of acquisitions, preservation, conservation and digitisation work.

Supporting the Friends of the Baillieu Library

The Library has the active support of Friends of the Baillieu Library to help us buy items of special importance. Without the support of the Friends of the Baillieu Library, rare books are increasingly beyond the Library's means. The value of the work of the Friends is amply demonstrated by their help in acquiring many notable works.

Gifts of published material

The Library welcomes gifts of published material that meet criteria that support the learning, teaching and research endeavours of the University and build on our historic collections.  To build the depth of the collection, the Library is keen to acquire rare, unusual and ephemeral materials that are not already held.

Gifts will be considered and accepted in line with our Collection development policy

As there are always costs associated with the preservation, repair, cataloguing and storage of gift collections, financial support to meet these costs is always appreciated.
