Collections in the Baillieu
LibGuides provide advice and tips on using the Baillieu collections for research and study.
General Collection, 2nd Floor
The collection focus is for undergraduate and post graduate study in the disciplines of the arts, humanities and social sciences. The collection is arranged by Dewey classification. The folio (larger sized) books are located at the end of each main Dewey sequence.
High Use Collection, Ground Floor
The High Use Collection houses recommended reading materials, selected by lecturers for their students, and are mostly shorter loan periods (either overnight or hourly loans). The High Use Collection is also where you can collect your requests, Bonus + items and inter-library loans.
Microforms Collection, Lower Ground Floor
The significant Microform Collection contains a wealth of primary and secondary source material. It is located on the Lower Ground Floor of the Baillieu Library
Special Collections, 3rd floor Baillieu Library
Special Collections holds some 200,000 volumes of books, journals and pamphlets, as well as archival material, that have been placed on 'closed access' by reason of their age, value or uniqueness in order to ensure their long-term care and preservation for future generations of scholars and researchers. They are available for research use and may be used in the Cultural Collections Reading Room, 3rd floor, Baillieu Library.
The University of Melbourne Archives, 3rd floor Baillieu Library
The University of Melbourne Archives collects, manages and provides access to the historical records of the University, Victorian business, trade unions and other labour organisations, community and cultural organisations, as well as the personal papers of many individuals prominent within them. Records date from the first years of the colony of Victoria until the present day and cover a very wide field of endeavour. The Archives were established in 1960 and to date hold some 15 kilometres of records. They are available for research use and may be used in the Cultural Collections Reading Room.
Government Documents, 3rd Floor Baillieu Library
The Baillieu Library has a comprehensive collection of Australian and Victorian government publications, as well as selected holdings for other states and territories and substantial holdings of British parliamentary debates and papers, and United States Congressional publications.
