Science Collections on the Move!
To achieve the University’s vision of creating a Science and Engineering Precinct on the eastern side of the Parkville campus, we are gradually moving smaller science libraries over to the well-equipped and facility-rich ERC. Some of the following moves will take place during February:
1.) Science materials currently located in the Baillieu Library will be relocated to the ERC. This mostly includes materials with a Dewey number in the 500s (510s to 559) and 004 to 006. This will happen immediately.3.) Reserve materials for Science subjects will also be relocated from the Baillieu Library to the ERC Reserve area. Lecturers wishing to place materials on Reserve in the ERC should complete the form at http://www.lib.unimelb.edu.au/collections/AEEres.html or contact their Liaison Librarian.
2.) High use materials from Earth Sciences Library will be moved to the ERC. This is scheduled to commence the week beginning Monday 14 February. From this date on there will be no access to this library. Low use material will be relocated to off-site storage facilities. Materials stored off-site can be ordered via the library catalogue with most requests available for collection within 24-48 hours.
The relocation of all science materials to the ERC will benefit students and researchers by providing a one-stop-shop for resources and library staff expertise. There is an added benefit in the short term as the Baillieu Library will be undergoing a major refurbishment and science students will experience less disruption from the renovations.
We apologise for any disruption during the moves. Please contact Peta Humphreys our Science & Engineering Librarian phump@unimelb.edu.au if you have any queries.
